Rick Davey, Patty Wagstaff, and a Breathtaking Piece of Machinery
Recently I had the privilege of meeting Mr. Rick Davey through a series of emails and his history and experience left me amazed. Let me back-track a bit. An avid Jeti user, Mr. Davey became the proud new owner of some pretty stellar (if I may say so myself) Jeti sunglasses and reached out to show his appreciation – which is absolutely reciprocated. In discussion, he sent over a photo of the Carf 3.2m Extra 330LX pictured above and I just knew it had to have a story. As I suspected it did, and such a great story it was.
Mr. Davey is a retired commercial pilot that now flies giant scale RC aircraft (on Jeti, in case you were wondering). In addition to flying massive (10’+ wingspan/ 60+ lbs) aircraft he also teaches others to fly. One subject that he covers in class is aerobatics, which he began learning from none other than the astonishing aerobatic pilot Patty Wagstaff. His Carf Extra 330LX is detailed to represent her 1990’s “Blackbird” aircraft.
“It [the airplane] belonged to Patty Wagstaff and she gave me my first private aerobatic training many years ago when she was just getting started… I loved the livery and honoring such a wonderful woman, by flying her ride and relating who she is to anyone interested.” Stated Mr. Davey.
If you don’t know who Patty Wagstaff, she is a three time US National Aerobatic Champion, a six time member of the US Aerobatic Team, has won Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medals in International Aerobatic Competition and is an inductee to the National Aviation Hall of Fame. She is nothing short of amazing, and a great role model for women interested in flight. (https://pattywagstaff.com/)
We, at Jeti USA, want to thank Mr. Davey for sharing such an amazing piece of history with us and of course for trusting Jeti with five giant scale airplanes! Thank you!
It doesn’t matter if your project is very challenging or very simple, it doesn’t matter what airplane you fly, aerobatic giant scale, turbine jets, >7m gliders or nitro powered planes and simple gliders, Jeti is the best of the best.
I mostly fly medium size nitro powered planes and electric or hi-start gliders since my workshop is quiet small and since I drive a Mazda CX5 without much space.
I have a DS12 Carbon and a DS16G2 and very often I take both radios to the field just for the pleasure of flying with both. As you can imagine many times I get asked why did I spend so much money in two radios just to fly nitro airplanes and simple gliders, my answer is that I really enjoy my radios and flying with them is really my hobby.
If you ask my wife she will tell you that I have become completely crazy since many times I sit to watch TV with one of my radios in my hands and keep “Hanger flying”, I can´t take my hands off of my Jeti radios.
I have been a modeller since I was 6 years old, then when I was 12 I started to fly R/C with a Cox Cub trainer with a Sanwa 1 channel radio and since then I have had many, many radios that I still have since I collect radios.
Until I got my first Jeti I thought that the best radio ever produced was the Futaba 9ZWC2, then two years ago I bought my first Jeti (DS12 Carbon) and one month later I bought a DS16G2 and now I am waiting for the DS24G2.
The quality of Jeti radios, the flexibility in the programming, the very solid radio link, and a very long etc. have put Jeti as the top of the line radio control system in history, at least is how I see it.
Keep up the great work.
Hey Alfredo! We are glad to hear how much you love Jeti – especially with all of the experience you have in the hobby. We know how awesome the Jeti system is, but its even better when our customers know it! 🙂 Thank you for flying Jeti and Happy Flying!
