Another Joe Nall has come and gone, and as usual, it did not disappoint. Never before have I seen an aircraft like the one flown by Markus Rummer at the noon time demos. His Delro Raven was anything short of predictable. Running on a custom made Hacker A200 motor, a Spin 300 ESC, and 10,000mAh 12S batteries, his power system pulled around 250 amps and produced over 11,000 watts of power! On top of that, Markus had it fitted with a variable pitch propeller set up. His custom 700 size Spin Helicopter Blades and his use of thrust vectoring made for a captivating demonstration. Watching a 3.1 meter Delro Raven perform maneuvers such as pin wheels and nose down hovering was amazing. It definitely kept us on our toes. However, none of that would have been possible without the Emcotec, Bavarian Demon, and Jeti.
As he flew, he was utilizing the Jeti telemetry to monitor the air speed, temperature and amperage of his system. Using the Telemetry Controls feature of his DS-16 radio, he was able to set limits in his system that constantly adjusted the pitch of his prop to keep from over-speeding, over-drawing, or over-heating his power system, saving his very special, one of a kind, aircraft.
In addition to the Jeti System, he was running two Emcotec Power Distribution Systems, the DPSI RV Mini 6 Magic and the Mini 5 Magic. He used the Mini 6 Magic to control the airplane’s servos and the Mini 5 Magic to control the Variable Pitch an Thrust Vectoring Servos. To help with the stabilization, Markus runs the Bavarian Demon Cortex.
His performance was surely a sight to be seen, but it did not happen overnight. When Markus was only five years old, he became introduced to the world of RC Flight. After six years in the hobby, he decided he needed a great show plane. Twenty three years later here he is with the variable pitch propelled fixed wing. This process was not an easy one. With many mistakes, and seven planes down, he finally got it right! The plane we saw at Joe Nall 2015 was his eighth aircraft to be fitted with the variable pitch setup, but I think it is safe to say it was worth the wait!
